A few more words from Kaarina Kaikkonen. This time on the cathartic process involved with her passion for collecting and working with second-hand clothes.
“My father died in front of me when I was a little girl,” she says. “I
have always felt very guilty because I was hiding under the table. I
felt I should save people’s lives because I did not save my father’s. (…) Mother burnt all his clothes so I took some of the clothing when I was 10 -as a girl, she used to cut down her father’s clothes to wear them outside-. We were three girls. I took the part of the father in my family. (…) All work is a kind of self-portrait.”
One last word. Although we are making good and steady progress with our
shirt collection, we still need your donations. Please, donate any
shirts no longer needed by bringing them to our office.
